An Eye for an I

Epiphany 2 A

Isaiah 49:1-7

Monday, January 10, 2011

It sounds like
the English pronoun
first person nominative singular
and organ of vision
are the same -

in Isaiah
the prophet of God
and vision
and person
I am
are - yes - the same.

I am caught in earshot
to speak the salvation of the earth,
snared by words I did not write
to set my life
for the salvation of the earth
I do not make.

Ah, well,
you are caught by the same sounding,
prophet of God,
an eye for an I,
toothless though we seem,
singular,
nominative from the womb
to see the people home.

That's what it sounds like to me.
