Jeremiah 23:1-6
Supplication of the Scattered
We are the scattered,
like the seeds of November.
What we were before is gone to ground,
may it rest in peace -
the flower of the spring,
languid summertime, heady and sweet.
Dark stretches over our sad hearts
and all our dated dreams.
. . like foster children
out of a house
and into what we pray will be a home,
hoping for the best,
a loving hand at last -
for our nation, our toil, our church, our home.
May it be so, Shepherd of our souls.
