Luke 24:13-35 

The Other One

Here are Cleopas, a nickname,
and another,
name missing altogether.
Probably for the best
on this day of days
to meet Jesus, raised
under the great sunny sky of unknowing,

for now they are clean as ashes, 
the companion's ID expunged from the record, 
a nameless orphan met with the Name of names
walking by his side
setting words on fire,
blazing,
skipping toward bread they decide to share
with the stranger.

They appear out of the ground,
these unnamed ones
into whose unclaimed sandals we slip
unnoticed to ourselves.
