Matthew 26:36-44

If we have it figured down to the hour
when God will come
in order to set our table
not an instant too soon 
lest we surrender more of the clock than necessary
that ticks the time he never comes 
nor is heard from,

then we might recheck the equation.
He is not a phoenix reborn from his own ashes
who must rediscover the world from zero -
he was from the beginning,
knowing all along 
every place at the table
we kept empty.
