Amos 7:7-17

Straight Up and Down

The Almighty bedecked with hard hat and sunglasses pockets his plumb bob. He stands in the shade by the wall they've run through the middle of Samaria. He says “Amos, it won't do.” The prophet starts to mumble “Are you sure you've figured . . . ? “ The contractor holds up his hand. “You can't build anything if you start off with screwy angles. These measures have been fixed. They can't work. The further you go out the worse it will get. It's just that simple.”

He taps his phone: “Michael, order me up a new set of blueprints. We're taking all this down.”

07-05-2010: Day after U. S. Independence Day. He takes his glasses and stares into a brand new I-Pad at a video feed of a Gulf slicked with crude. Gulf Coast politicians who have been starving down Federal regulatory agencies for twenty years (“The business of America is business”) are screaming at DC for not preventing the rape of their coastlands. Meanwhile, the little people along the saturated strand are loosing their livelihoods. Again, just as in the last debacle, those who can least afford it will, ultimately, pick up the tab.

He taps the screen: “Michael. Yeah, me again. Order me up a new set of blueprints. Sorry. Here's what I want. . . ”
